Does Mary Appear in the Night Sky this Feast of the Annunciation?

All the following is from my good friend and classmate Br. Joshua at Holy Apostles College & Seminary:

On March 25, 2012, millions of Christians (Catholic and Orthodox) will celebrate the “Annunciation” – which commemorates the conception of Jesus. This March 25, there will be a neat astronomical arrangement in the sky, that seems to mesh nicely. See the description below:
The sky will be spectacular in the west after sunset on March 25, 2012, with the waxing crescent moon and the planet Jupiter very close to each other in the evening twilight sky. Plus Venus is nearby – the sky’s brightest planet. You’ll see Jupiter and the moon below Venus in the west after sunset. The famous Pleiades star cluster is above Venus. 

For centuries Mary has been referred to as the “Morning Star”, the popular name of the Planet Venus. In this configuration, the Morning Star appears with the moon at her feet. The Pleiades (from “peleiades” the Greek word for doves) overshadows the Morning Star. Jupiter, the “King Planet” approaches the configuration.  The symbolism is striking. This is a interesting arrangement for the mystery of the Annunciation which heralds Christ’s coming through Mary.

The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. (Luke 1:35).
“A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman- clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars” (Revelation 12:1)

  1. Thanks for the reply Dan. A certain blog who just happens to be pushing the medj. message big time has responded to me via an inquiry i made to him and that he had claimed that you headlined a 2010 article about medj. He claimed that you had sent him this entitled article on his site (“Ultra-traditionalist” Catholic Returns from Marian Shrine with powerful story) to him but checking your site, it didn’t appear that way. I just wanted a clarification by you. You answered my suspicion correctly. From discovering your site yesterday, it didn’t appear that you were a trad, even though you said you were perusing an ultra trad site. My guess was he was trying to entice trads who lurk on his site to make it seem like trads are actually interested in medj.

    I’ve read recently that you were labelled once an ultra-traditional? Have you had a sort of conversion? I haven’t picked up this from your blog so I am mystified.

    1. Hi Tom; I do love tradition, but I don’t know where the “ultra traditional” label came from. I certainly never have been that! Honestly I’ve only even been to a handful of Extraordinary Form Masses in my life.

    Perhaps you have never come across the following in your studies.

    Luke 16:22-23 “And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abrahams bosom. And the rich man also died: and he was buried in hell. …” (perhaps Our Lord is pulling our leg ?)

    Matthew 22:32 ” … He is not the God of the dead, but of the living.”

    Apocalypse 6:9-11 “… I saw under the alter the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held, And they cried with a loud voice, saying: How long, O Lord (holy and true) dost thou not judge and revenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? … ” (these souls are in Heaven and are not “dwelling” on earth)

    Matthew 17:1-13 ” … And He was transfigured before them. and His face did shine as the sun : and His garments became white as snow. And behold there appeared to them Moses and Elias talking with Him. …” ( It does not sound as though Moses followed the part where you claim that the soul stays with the body in the grave, or perhaps you would further try to convince folks that Moses was demonic and tricked Our Lord. And if Elias was whisped away body and soul into Heaven, then why not Our Lady.)

      Eph. 3:14-15- we are all one family (“Catholic”) in heaven and on earth, united together, as children of the Father, through Jesus Christ. Our brothers and sisters who have gone to heaven before us are not a different family. We are one and the same family. This is why, in the Apostles Creed, we profess a belief in the “communion of saints.” There cannot be a “communion” if there is no union. Loving beings, whether on earth or in heaven, are concerned for other beings, and this concern is reflected spiritually through prayers for one another.

      1 Cor. 12:26 – when one member suffers, all suffer. When one is honored, all rejoice. We are in this together as one family.

      1 Cor 13:12; 1 John 3:2 – now we see in a mirror dimly, but in heaven we see face to face. The saints are more alive than we are!

      Heb. 12:1: we are surrounded by a great glory cloud (shekinah) of witnesses. The “cloud of witnesses” refers to the saints who are not only watching us from above but cheering us on in our race to heaven.

      1 Peter 2:9; Rev. 20:6 – we are a royal family of priests by virtue of baptism. We as priests intercede on behalf of each other.

      2 Peter 1:4 – since God is the eternal family and we are His children, we are partakers of His divine nature as a united family.

      1. In relating to verse 1 Cor. 12:26, John Donne wrote the “For Whom the Bell Tolls”, and in his account ,if you will, resounds quite well with scripture (and overall respect to people).

  9. Thanks for this spiritual gift Brother, we in SOLT will be praying for you, and your vocation. My son Joseph (age 11) told me about the astrophysical alignment after he observed it in an astronomy book that he received over Christmas. When I read your article via SpiritDaily, it was confirmation for me. However one thing bothered me…when I saw Venus off centered in the graphic that you posted I wondered why the graphic artist chose the image of Our Lady of Grace. I immediately went to work on a hunch, and the results were more than I ever expected. I chose Our Lady of Guadalupe of Mexico (where our Holy Father is right now and not by coincidence).   10. Yesterday I did my dedication to Mother Mary after 33 days of special prayers. I did it in the chapel of Our Lady Of All Nations in Amsterdam. I was very touched while speaking out my dedication. I had the help of a female friend who arranged my dedication in this special chapel, kneeling down right in front of the picture of the appearances of our Lady Mary on this spot. This all being whitnessed by a priest. It was a beautifull day. Then, in the evening this friend ringed me and told me about the arrangement in the sky. I looked at it and now I realise how even more special it made this day for me. Blessed be Mary and may Her Triumph be soon!

  11. Don’t know if anyone said this but next to the Pleiades is the Hyades Star cluster. It is refered to as the “5 step sisters” and along with the pleiades which is refered to as the “7 sisters” you get 12 sisters or 12 stars. I know there are more stars in these clusters but these are the ones visible. Interesting that now we have a “crown fo 12 stars” and the moon under her feet…..

    For 5 yr old Bobby who had his appendix out today AND a hernia operation, too! This year he had his tonsils out and tubes put in his ear and other health problems. Please pray for health in body, mind, soul and spirit for this sweet young boy.

  13. I just heard that a friend died this morning, I think he was only 55 … a believing practising Catholic – not perfect. He had his issues, but he believed and trusted in Our Lord, Our Lady and the successor to Peter … so I ask all of you for prayers and Masses, if possible to be said for Matt McGlade. I was shocked to hear of his death (no details yet), but
    the more I thought about it, I thought of what an honor it is that Our Lord took him on so great a feast, which really celebrates and calls to mind, the day of the Incarnation, when the Holy Spirit came down upon the Blessed Virgin Mary who gave her consent to the message given by God through the Archangel Gabriel, that she was to become the Mother of His Son. “And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us.” He has a daughter whom he loved, who is in her sophomore year at a Catholic college. Thank you all for the article, the beautiful comments and the prayer support for Matt and his surviving daughter.

  14. I wanted to add to my comment about seeing Our Lady in Betania that after we came back, my friend and I started a Cenacle under the auspices of Father Gobbi and the Marian Movement of Priests. We have been meeting since 1996.
    I know that I could never have done this on my own and that Our Lady surely wants this and brings so many devout and holy people to the meeting each month. If you know me, you know that I could never accomplish this on my own.
    She wants us to pray for Her beloved priests and for the world.

  15. It was on the eve of the Annunciation in Betania Venezuella, that my friend and I saw Our Lady, head bowed, hands folded in prayer and appearing to be looking out of a window, which I came to realize later, this was “The Annuciation”.
    That was in 1996. I shall never forget it.

  16. I did not always love Mary but years after it happened I realized that my daughter was in the hospital near death and she recovered miraculously the next day. Even the doctors were amazed at her recovery. She got sick on Feb. 10 and recovered on Feb. 11, the exact dates of the apparition at Lourdes to St. Bernadette. Also later when I returned to the church and my husband and I had to have a marriage validation, it was on Feb. 10, through no part of my own. It just happend that way. So now I have a devotion to the Blessed Mother and to St. Bernadette.

  17. Oh and Leona, God does not manifest Himself to our sense of sight, but to the greater sense of spiritual apprehension. When I was 15, having just finished reading the Bible, I went outside, knelt and asked God to let me know if He existed. I was young, innocent, and totally sincere so perhaps that is why He showed me–not at all what I had expected and Inexpressible but so clear that I rose to my feet and said, well, whenever I doubt I will remember this night and KNOW. And through thick and then, I have always known with a conviction I would die for.

  19. I hope this does not offend anyone but I had read of this and saw it right in front of me as I drove home from voting in the LA primary tonight. Thinking about Santorum winning over half the votes reminded me that he, as a Catholic, must have a great love for our Mother Mary, and I wondered if she intercedes for him? It would be so wonderful, in this difficult time,and against all the odds, to have a devout Catholic in the White House. We will see if it is God’s will as it is perfect, whatever we ” see” with our human eyes.

Br Joshua, – This is beautiful I have always had a very special attachment to Our Blessed Mother my family surname on my Mothers side is Madonna and I was taught by the School Sisters of Notre Dame.-I made my Holy Communion in the Marian year of 1954 , and my Confirmation name is Marie. My daughter was born at 9 p.m. on March 24-the eve of the Annunciation . I have had great devotion to Our Blessed Mother =this article really touched my heart- ,especially now in these dangerous times, I thank You and God Bless You (if this is Brother Joshua from st John Cantius- we all miss you and look so forward to your and Brother Nathans Ordnation.)

    I love Mother Mary. I learned to love her through my earthly mother whose name is also Mary. Mother Mary has always been there for me in my difficult moments. She is a real Mother to me. I trust her 100%.

  22. Whenever it’s full moon, the moon looks right into my bedroom and I always think of the words-fair as the moon, bright as the sun, terrible as an army set in battle array! I know then that Mary, my mother is looking out for me.

  23. Found on page 53 In the “Divine Life of the Most Holy Virgin” by Ven. Mary of Agreda the Incarnation happend on Friday the 25 of March at dawn, the same hour that Adam was created. according to the account. How interesting, that date is in aggrement with the offical church feast day.

  24. In the book titled “The Mystical City of God”, our Lord Jesus proclaimed that devotion to the Blessed Mother is devotion to the Holy Trinity. It is probably why the Rosary is one of most powerful prayer we can recite.

He gives us His proof which in this case is the resurrection. The truth of this issue or any issue sometimes requires a long explanation. This is where faith comes in. But the short answer for you is the old saying, “to those who believe no explanation is needed. To those who don’t believe no explanation is possible.” Just try to make love the motive for all you do in your life and soon you will need no explaintion for anything. At that point you will see God in your heart and the sky!

  27. This article lead me to read The song of Solomon ( Canticle of Canticles ) in the Douay Rheims Bible, with commentary.
    It just blew my mind . Without the commentary there is no way this book is even discernible . It’s all about The Church and Mary. Very mystical and beautiful. ( Chapter 2 verse 1-2) I am the flower of the field, and the lily of the valleys.as the lily among thorns,so is my love among the daughters. ( Commentary. I’am the flower of the field. Christ professes himself
    the flower of mankind, yea, the Lord of all creatures; and verse 2, declares the excellence of his spouse,the true Church
    above all societies, which are to be considered as thorns.) I would advise anybody to read Song of Songs in the Douay Rheims, the commentary just beautiful , now I am reading it over and over,just heavenly!s

  28. And so I am rereading ” The Divine Life of the Most Holy Virgin” from the Mystical City of God by venerable Mary of Agreda. March 23 or sometime close is an important date: now I won’t rest untill I go back through and find the page. That is what grabbed my attention concerning this article. We’re so blessed so fortunate to have such a LOVING MOTHER, helping us , guiding our steps toward JESUS, teaching us about JESUS, and preparing us for JESUS, and interceeding for us before JESUS and the HOLY TRINITY.   31. The Poem of Rikky about Mother Mary can’t be sweeter to our Lords Ear in our frail Human way of expressions. The way to our Lords Heart is through his Mother. Mary is God’s greatest creation,for without her we would all be condemt to Hell. There is no other way of explaining this. He or She, who thinks otherwise will have a hard time justifying their action’s before God the Father. It is He who createt this imaculate Soul, to bring the Word of God in human flesh in to this world for our savation.

The bible and many “approved” apparitions have stated to look for signs in the sky of Our Lord’s coming, Mary, is a key player in the events that are to come- If anything this should be looked upon as a major sign that significant events will follow shortly. Hail Mary…full of grace, the Lord is with thee… After all, the Annunciation was the beginning!

  34. Orion The Great Hunter appears in my night sky every night. Let us stop and praise the warrior of the sky. He is with us nightly, instead of one coincidental occurrence.

    I’m glad that your god is busy doing things like this instead offering verifiable evidence of existence. Where is the sign in the sky that says: “I exist” ? Why can’t he just do that and make things much easier for the roughly 50% of the entire world that does not believe in him or in other deities?

    1. Over 99% of people who have ever existed have believed in God, Leona. Know also that He gives enough evidence so that if we love Him, we clearly see Him; but if we choose to hate Him, we are not forced to. Praying for you.

    2. Simple answer: God has given us free will. He never has forced us to love Him, honor Him or worship Him but yet He loves His children more than anyone can imagine. Seek Him and you will find out for yourself. If you vehemently deny His existence, it is likely you will not feel His presence in your life….but yet He resides in every soul He creates! Challenge yourself! Call in the quiet of your mind and heart….I trust in you Jesus! – 3X….He will soften the hardest of hearts and break away the chains of denial!

    3. Leona, the Heavens are “telling” the glory of God and all creation is shouting for joy! The heavens, that Almighty God the Father created, are telling His story. The Conception of His Son Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. Since the beginning of recorded time, human beings have looked up to the heavens and discovered the stories of the One True God, Father, Son, Holy Spirit. The Holy Scriptures have the Father’s Plan written in words. The heaven’s have the Father’s Plan displayed in the planets and stars. Truly amazing, The Blessed Trinity communicates through the creatures.

  36. No one truly loves God if he or she does not love His mother, the woman through whom he chose to come into the world. If God honored Her by choosing her to be His Mother who are we to do otherwise. Pray the Holy Rosary daily. It is very powerful. Remember the fifteen promises of the Rosary our Blessed Mother made; whatever we ask of Her through the Rosary, she would obtain it for us from Her Son. This is one of the promises She made. I am a mother, as well as daughter and if anyone disrespects my mom, but claims to love me, that would really hurt and I honestly would not want to have anything to do with that person.

  38. God gave Our Blessed Mother the greatest honor ever given to man; that is to be His Mother.Who are we then to think less of Her. Blessed Virgin’s “YES” to God is the reason why we have Christ and how can anyone claim to love and honor God, if he or she has no love or honor for the woman through whom HE chose to be born? GLORY TO JESUS AND HONOR TO OUR MOTHER MARY!!! Brothers and sisters please pray the Holy Rosary. It is very powerful and I can testify to that. As Christians and especially as Catholics, we have to remember that God worked His first miracle because of Her at the wedding in Cana in Galilee. As He told her when she said there was no more wine, His time had not yet come. But He did it anyway, because of Her and Her faith in Him.

    1. He Anonymous, you wrote what I was going to write : Jesus worked His first miracle because of His Mother turning water into the best wine. But what a trust Mary has in Her Son, She tells the servers at the wedding : do whatever He tells you.
      This goes deep into my soul. I’m a labor and delivery nurse night shifter. One night the delivery was going so difficult and I was in my soul praying to Mary to help the patient to deliver. I’m praying Hail Mary’s and at a certain moment the patient’s mother says : La Virgen esta aqui en el cuarto : The Virgin is here in the room!!! I’m an RN since 1970 and an RN-Midwife since 1980 and the wonderful things that happened while taking care of the sick and the laboring are so plenty and heavenly, that my soul could fly away to Her and Her Son in Heaven, but it is still too early, my task is not ended yet : bringing God’s love to the people and their family I’m taking care of.     This is an awesome post. The devil has tried to ‘ape’ the signs in the sky by perverting them into silly horoscopes. We don’t look to the stars to control our thoughts and actions. This would be pagan superstition. That is not what God originally intended, if you read the Scripture I posted. We look not to the stars but to the one who controls the timeclock -our Triune God, Who can use the heavens for His own astounding, symbolic purposes. Anyone paying attention to the astronomical ‘dance’ taking place in the heavens lately between the ‘king planet’ – Jupiter and the
    ‘mother planet’ – Venus KNOWS something is being communicated.

You, the perfect, holy Son of God redeemed the world through Your shed blood. Good News! Great News!! Your Word says that “You are the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father, except through You”. I trust only in You because your Word says that “salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” My faith is in You, Jesus!   44. It was once complained by a non-catholic, “You catholics put too much emphasis on Mary.” Catholics worldwide, and the Church itself, can assure you, that no catholic will ever hold Mary in more esteem and honor than do God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ.

    1. I, some time ago, posted my Poem that I wrote for Mary as an answer to an article about Mary on Familyland.be, the guy Rob Allaert who runs it is taking classes at the “Catholic” University of Louvain in Belgium to become a deacon. A Dutch protestant theologian by the name of Wim DeBruin who twitters with him, complained about that poem stating: there goes another “Mary Worshipper”. Rob Allaert wrote him back : we’ll get rid of it, no spammers here and indeed it was taken off the website. It hurt me in the name of Our Heavenly Mother. I’ll post this poem and you tell me what you think of it.

      MARY, SWEETEST OF ALL MOTHERS

      Oh Thou,
      most beautiful a woman
      most tender of all mothers
      most brilliant STAR of DAVID
      Masterpiece of God’s creation
      to the Holy Trinity
      most precious Pearl
      towards your Son the Golden Bridge
      Golden Gate
      to the Holy City

Please everyone pray for my daughter, she does not believe there is a God. It breaks my heart. I have 6 children, and 10 sisters, and brothers. Please pray for us all. Thanks.

      1. Did’nt the 3 wise men follow the Star of Bethlehem indicating where the Messiah was born !!!!! And Our Lady of Guadalupe has the exact copy on her clothing of the position of the stars at the moment of the apparition to Juan Diego. Mario I don’t understand your reasoning and yes Mary is the Morning star, even the very words before we pray the Magnificat are : Who is She that cometh forth as the Morning Rising, Fair as the Moon, Bright as the Sun, terrible as an army in Battle Array….. Never heard that Lucifer is also known as the Morning Star, but even so, you should know that the name Lucifer means “Light-bearer” and he is no longer the true holder of that name…Our Lady ifs the true “Light-bearer”, namely Christ, and some saints have thus referred to Her as the true Lucifer…but that sounds really bad to the uneducated ears of modern man.

  49. The heavens proclaim the greatness of the Lord. Our Lady is very bright for us in these dark days. My son and I were at a planetarium show a few weeks ago and the presenter showed us this night, not because of the significant date, but just because of the spectacular “show”. Of course I got SO excited about the date and the Marian significance! God is so amazing!!

There is no problem I tell you, no matter how difficult it is, that we cannot resolve by the prayer of the Holy Rosary. With the Holy Rosary, we will save ourselves. We will sanctify ourselves. We will console Our Lord and obtain the salvation of many souls.”
